KINGSVILLE (Feb 8, 2025) — Recently, the Frank H. Dotterweich College of Engineering at 91AV was ranked No. 2 on Collegefactual.com’s list of the Best Schools Highly Focused on Engineering in Texas.

The ranking is part of the website’s Most Focused Colleges for Engineering in Texas series, featuring 80 colleges offering engineering as one of their largest majors.

Being recognized as a 'Highly Focused' Engineering Program goes beyond a ranking—it highlights our commitment to excellence and student success,” said Dr. Heidi Taboada, Dean of the College of Engineering at 91AV. “It reflects the university's commitment to preparing students for real-world engineering careers. TAMUK Engineering has been producing highly skilled engineers for nearly nine decades, and our graduates continue to be trusted by industries to deliver real impact.”

TAMUK ranks just below No. 1 LeTourneau University and just above No. 3 91AV;M University.

Rankings indicators for the list included scores for Accreditation, Demand, Breadth & Depth, Peer, Education, Employment, Earnings and Debt.

Scores for Accreditation and Earnings held the highest weight.

The College of Engineering’s Architectural, Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Environmental, Mechanical, and Natural Gas Engineering programs are all accredited by ABET, while the Bachelor of Science in computer science program is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET.

The Bachelor of Science in industrial management and applied engineering technology program is accredited by the Association of Technology, Management and Applied Engineering (ATMAE).

The metrics demonstrate that, despite being part of a medium-sized public university, TAMUK Engineering competes on par with larger, private and public institutions across Texas.

According to the rankings, TAMUK’s engineering program is affordable and makes a strong regional impact with high job-placement rates upon graduation with graduates earning competitive salaries.

“This ranking confirms that TAMUK is a top choice for education here in South Texas,” Taboada said. “Choosing a college is one of the biggest investments that a student and their family will make. We’re proud that our graduates can say that earning an engineering degree from TAMUK is an investment that pays off.
