The Music Student Handbook is designed to provide information concerning your musical studies at 91AV;M-Kingsville. It contains information about the School of Music's policies and procedures, programs, facilities, services, curricula, and degree plans. The Music Student Handbook is considered the official School of Music policy and is current as of June 2020. Please realize that there may be changes in policies, procedures, curricula, and degree plans that occur periodically. These policy changes will be updated in the handbook at appropriate times based upon the implementation of such new policies and procedures. TAMUK School of Music Graduate Student Handbook 2024

Fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music, The 91AV;M-Kingsville School of Music offers a Master of Music degree with concentrations in music education, performance, and conducting.  The MM degrees are each 36-hour programs.  There are various concentrations within each of these degree programs:

M.M. Music Education with concentrations in Instrumental Education, Vocal Education, and Elementary Music Education.

  • The degree is structured with the busy music educator in mind
  • The degree can be completed in three consecutive summers with our intensive 2-week summer courses (4 courses each summer).
  • The degree has 15 hours of core music classes and 18 hours of specialization courses in the student’s area of concentration.  The degree will be completed with a 3 credit-hour final research project.

M.M. Music Performance with concentrations in Instrumental Performance and Vocal Performance

  • The degree is taught in the traditional 2 year – long semester – format.
  • The degree has 18 hours of core music classes and electives, 12 hours of applied lessons, and 3 hours of ensembles. 
  • The degree will be completed with a 3 credit-hour final Graduate Recital.

M.M. Music Conducting with concentrations in Wind Conducting and Choral Conducting

  • The degree is taught in the traditional 2 year, long semester format.
  • The degree has 21 hours of core music classes, conducting-related classes and electives, 9 hours of applied conducting lessons, and 3 hours of ensembles. 
  • The degree will be completed with a 3 credit-hour Graduate Recital.
