Certificate in Construction Management


The Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering offers a graduate level, transcripted Construction Management Certificate.  This certificate provides a professional credential focused on the management of large-scale construction projects.  The Construction Management Certificate is open to all graduate students with a four-year degree in engineering or a closely related field, as well as to undergraduate students who satisfy concurrent enrollment criteria for 91AV graduate classes.  The certificate in Construction Management can be completed jointly with the Engineering Project Management Certificate provided the additional 6 SCH course requirement (see below) is met.

Certificate Requirements

The Construction Management Certificate requires a total of 12 SCH (4 courses), and at least 6 SCH (2 courses) must be in addition to degree requirements applied towards any other graduate program.  Students must earn a "B" or higher in all courses applied towards the Construction Management Certificate.  All students must complete CEEN 5326 (Advanced Construction Management).  Students may then select the remaining 9 SCH (3 courses) from the following elective lists.

  • CEEN 5324 (Heavy Construction)
  • CEEN 5325 (Risk Management Construction)
  • CEEN 5354 (Pavement Management Systems)
  • IEEN 5310 (Risk Management)
  • IEEN 5329 (Advanced Engineering Economic Analysis)
  • IMEN 5333 (Hazardous Materials Management)
  • IMEN 5355 (Industrial Safety and Risk Management)

Electives outside the Frank H. Dotterweich College of Engineering (Select 0-3 SCH):

  • ECON 5310 (Economics and Managerial Decision Making)
  • ISYS 5347 (Information Systems and Business Analytics)
  • GEOL 5312 (Geographic Information Systems)
