Background Checks


In accordance with the university rule 24.01.06.K1 for Camps and Programs for Minors all camps or youth outreach program sponsors must conduct background checks on all staff or volunteers if any program participants are under the age of eighteen.

The background checks will include criminal history checks and sex offender data base checks and will be conducted in accordance with System Regulation 33.99.14.K1 Criminal History Record Information - Employees and Applicants.

Process:

1. The camp or program hiring authority shall be responsible for having each staff or volunteer complete a Background Check Authorization Form.

2. The camp or program hiring authority should submit the completed form to the University Police Department as soon as possible.

3. The University Police Department will send the results to the Director of Human Resources when the background check is complete.

4. The Director of Human Resources will notify the department when the background checks are complete.

5. Questions about the background check process should be directed to Dr. Shane Creel, Executive Director Enterprise Risk Management.

BACKGROUND CHECKS MUST BE COMPLETED ANNUALLY FOR ALL CAMP STAFF PRIOR TO THE INDIVIDUAL STARTING TO WORK / VOLUNTEER WITH THE CAMP / YOUTH OUTREACH PROGRAM.
