Schedule

Aug. 30 – Welcome and overview of NFIP

Introduction of the Fall program for the 2024-2025 NFIP participants and discusses the programmatic overview of Center for Faculty Excellence at TAMUK

 Sept. 6 – Student resources (health & wellness, counseling, disability services)

An overview of resources available to students and faculty for health, wellness, counseling, and disability.

 Sept. 13 – Who are our students?

Discussion of teaching students at a historically Hispanic, first-generation, and rural-serving institution, also an HSI.

 Sept. 20 – Student resources and faculty service

An overview of ancillary student resource services such as the Writing Center, Tutoring Center, technology services etc. A presentation by Faculty Senate discussing service opportunities to get involved in TAMUK shared governance.

 Sept. 27 – Pedagogy practices in action

Practical examples of effective teaching and learning methodologies in face to face and online course formats.

 Oct. 4 – Removing barriers for students in the classroom

A discussion of resources available to educators across the state of Texas (and beyond) to minimize cost barriers for our students.

 Oct. 11 – Research and Scholarship

 A presentation by high research producing TAMUK faculty members from across different disciplines discussing opportunities to get involved in scholarship while focusing on the teaching mission.

 Oct. 18 – Technology Resources

The Center for Academic Technology (CAT) at TAMUK provides support for several technology hardware and software tools to campus community. The CAT team will discuss faculty resources in this interactive session.

Oct. 25 – Optimizing your time

Successful teaching, scholarship and service require tremendous time and effort from faculty, however, there are ways to optimize to include two or more of these outcomes in once activity. A presentation covering such strategies along with resources available to faculty to prevent burnout.

 Nov. 1 Tenure and Promotion

The Associate Vice President for Academics and representatives for academic colleges will illustrate the tenure and promotion process at TAMUK to the new faculty.

 Nov. 8 – Research & sponsored programs

The Office of Research and Innovation will discuss external award opportunities available to TAMUK faculty. An overview of the Institutional Review Board process will accompany this session.

 Nov. 15 – Effective Pedagogies

A team of faculty members from across disciplines will showcase effective pedagogies such as project based, experiential, active learning, service, problem based, etc. with a brief presentation and a thorough discussion in round table settings.

 Nov. 22 – Teaching and Learning

TAMUK provides a host of services through its Center for Student Success that allow our faculty to facilitate effective teaching and learning for their students. An overview of such resources and role of faculty in getting student utilization of these will be covered.

 

Spring 2025

The Spring term will focus on three activities: (1) peer classroom observation, (2) teaching or research/grants working groups, and (3) a final poster presentation.
