Master of Science in CACREP-Accredited Clinical Mental Health Counseling (EDCM program), 60 credit-hours
- Rural Mental Health Counseling emphasis: 60 credits
- School Counseling emphasis: 60 credits
- Sandtray Therapy emphasis: 60 credits
Our 60-hour CMHC degree is designed exclusively to provide graduates with the necessary coursework and the experiential tools to become Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC) in Texas and to promote academic excellence, scholarly research, and equality in professional counseling. Upon graduation, our CACREP-accredited CMHC graduate is eligible to work for veteran centers and/or sit for the National Counselor’s Examination and take the Texas Jurisprudence Examination. With these requirements completed, the CMHC graduates can apply for the state of Texas for an LPC Associate license.
After graduation, LPC Associates are required to complete 3,000 clock hours under the supervision of a board-approved Licensed Professional Counselors Supervisor (LPC-S) to submit the necessary paperwork to BHEC () to receive the LPC license. It is the graduate’s responsibility to complete all of the necessary steps toward licensure post-graduation. Our CMHC degree offers emphases in (a) School Counseling, (b) Rural Mental Health, and (c) Sandtray Therapy.

48 credits (meets TEA requirements for certification)
This is a 48-hour degree designed for those who seek certification in Texas as a School Counselor. Upon completion of the degree program, students will have met all relevant educational requirements for Texas Education Agency school counselor certification. Students seeking school counseling certification should consult with the school counselor program coordinator and the certification office on campus regarding current state certification requirements to ensure eligibility prior to graduation.
