Our CACREP-Accredited Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (EDCM) 60-semester-hour degree is 100% online and meets Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors requirements!  You have the option of (a) School Counseling emphasis, (b) Rural Mental Health emphasis, and (c) Sandtray Therapy emphasis. Our program has an active Tau Alpha Kappa chapter of the Chi Sigma Iota (CSI) Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society.

We also offer a 48-semester-hour Master of Science in Counseling & Guidance (not CACREP-accredited) for those who seek certification in Texas as a School Counselor or who wish to pursue a non-license track.

Program Mission

Our mission is to prepare competent counselors in the areas of clinical mental health counseling, school counseling, rural mental health, and sandtray therapy to work with culturally diverse populations and to provide graduates with the educational and experiential tools to acquire positions in a wide variety of mental health and school settings. Our mission correlates with the university and department mission of “preparing competent counselors in the areas of professional counseling to work with culturally diverse populations and to provide these graduates with the experiential tools to acquire positions in a wide variety of mental health settings.”

Admission Requirements

 To be accepted into the program, the applicant must submit the following documents:
  •  A bachelor’s degree
  •  A transcript with a minimum overall 3.0+ GPA in undergraduate coursework
  •  A transcript with a minimum overall 3.0+ GPA in graduate coursework for transfer students and   major change students
  •  No requirements for MAT or GRE
  •  A Purpose Statement. See linked Purpose Statement Instructions
  •  A Resume

The student needs to maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher throughout the program. Only the final grade of the course “A” or “B” will be accepted for this degree. Our program accepts a maximum of 15 transfer credit hours if the syllabi meet the CACREP standards. For inquiries about transfer credits from other counseling programs, please contact the faculty advisor (based on the applicant's first letter of the last name). We have options available for you to send the required documents. Please include your applicant ID on ALL documents.

  • You may upload your documents using our online portal.
  • You may email your documents to graduateadmissions@tamuk.edu.
  • You may mail your documents to Graduate Admission, 700 University Blvd., MSC 128, Kingsville, Texas, 78363.
  • At this time, the university is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. You may drop your documents for your admission, registrar, Military & Veteran Resource Center, or financial aid file at the Blue and Gold Central (BGC), first floor in the Memorial Student Union Building, 1050 W. Santa Gertrudis Ave., Kingsville.

Once you submit your application, you may check the status of your application by logging into your Blue & Gold Connection using your applicant ID and your password, which is your birth date. You will use your birth date using six digits with no dashes (mmddyy). For example, if your birth date is December 15, 2001, you will use 121501.
