TAMUK RecSports Fitness is dedicated to promoting a healthy and active lifestyle among our students, faculty, and staff. We offer a wide range of fitness services to help everybody achieve their wellness goals.
Group Fitness Classes
Join our GroupEX community and experience the energy of our group fitness classes. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced fitness enthusiast, we have classes for every level and interest. From muscle building weight training to yoga and dance, there's something for everyone. See below for the schedule of classes and information regarding class passes.

- The GroupEX room is located in the SPEC racquetball courts and will be opened 5 minutes before class starts.
- For 5:00 am classes, please use the door on Ave C facing the Tennis Courts. Parking available in Parking Lot 11.
- Faculty and Staff only classes are limited to TAMUK faculty, staff, and retirees and require a paid Faculty and Staff Class Pass.
- Student Program Passes in Fusion Play must be presented during sign in for all classes. See below how to get your ClassPass today!
Class Descriptions
- We recommend bringing a towel and water bottle to all group exercise classes.
- All equipment needed for classes is provided. To create the healthiest environment possible, members who want to use a mat (especially for yoga classes) should bring their own.
Welcome to Total Body Sculpt & Tone—a perfect starting point for your strength journey! This class offers a supportive environment for beginners to dive into the fundamentals of strength training. From curls to squats, we'll target every muscle group, sculpting and toning for a stronger, more confident you. Get ready to feel the burn and see results with Total Body Sculpt and Tone!
Join our Mat Pilates class, where we combine traditional Pilates exercises with resistance bands, light hand weights, and balance balls. This low-impact workout focuses on strengthening your core, improving flexibility, and enhancing balance. Whether you're a beginner or experienced, this class will help you build a strong, toned body while keeping things gentle on your joints. All levels are welcome!
Participants are encouraged to bring their own mats to class.
Step & Pump: a cardio party that's low on impact but high on energy! Step up to the beat and pump up the fun as we combine step aerobics with dumbbell exercises for a full-body blast. This is a great cross-training program for all skill levels!
Zumba classes combine Latin and international music and dance to create a dynamic calorie-burning form of workout for people of all fitness levels. This effective fitness system features aerobic training that is a fusion of slow and fast rhythms to tone and sculpt your body.
Class Passes
GroupEx Class Passes are valid from Jan 27-May 2, 2025.
No GroupEx classes will be held during Spring Fling (TBA), Spring Break (March 19-21), or Good Friday (April 18).
- Starting Spring 2024, students will be able to purchase a Program Pass for $20 a semester that will get them access to all GroupEx Fitness Classes and Intramural Sports Programs.
- Students who have a Fall 2024 Program Pass will be able to participate in Spring 2024 GroupEx Fitness Classes.
- Student Program Passes can be purchased or at the Student Recreation Center front desk.
- Students must download Fusion Play and show membership ID to participate in all events.
The Alumni/Retiree Class Pass will cost $40 for those with RecSports memberships and $60 Class Pass access only for the 2024 Spring semester. Class Passes can be purchased at the front desk of the Student Recreation Center or through our website portal under Group Fitness.
The Community Class Pass will cost $50 for those with RecSports memberships and $70 Class Pass access only for the 2024 Spring semester. Class Passes can be purchased at the front desk of the Student Recreation Center or through our website portal under Group Fitness.
Faculty, Staff, Alumni, and Community Members may purchase a Class Pass without a Rec Center membership. The GroupEX Only Class Pass* gives you access to Group Exercise classes offered by Recreational Sports during the Spring Semester.
*The Group Ex Only Class Pass only allows access the Student Recreation Center when attending group exercise classes hosted at the Student Recreation Center.

TAMUK Certified Personal Training Program
Join Recreational Sports for a rewarding training opportunity! We’re seeking dedicated individuals who are passionate about fitness and eager to gain valuable experience on a one-on-one basis with certified professionals. This internship offers the chance to become a Certified Personal Trainer through the esteemed National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).
Certification: Opportunity to become a Certified Personal Trainer through NASM
Mentors: Malik Jones, Competitive Sports and Camps Coordinator
- Participate in a one-on-one mentorship with experienced fitness professionals.
- Observe and learn practices in personal training setting
- Receive guidance on certification study materials and preparation
- Gain practical, on-field experience in fitness training techniques.
- Collaborate with the Rec Sports team to deliver exceptional fitness services.
- Help in the monitoring of fitness classes.
- Ensure the safe use of exercise equipment.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Be enrolled in TAMUK Spring 2025
- Have or be currently pursuing CPR/AED certification
- Must be pursuing a degree in Kinesiology or Related Field
- Passion for fitness and a desire to pursue a career in personal training.
- Strong Interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team setting.
- Willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic environment
- Commitment to the training duration and fulfilling responsibilities.
